Pathways Into Darkness

Info about melted a melted gun finds its way onto the Pathways Into Darkness page.

Marathon

bungie.org is proud to announce the newest member of our family... Marathon Arena, a Quake 3 mod that will bring Marathon Infinity to the Q3 engine. Stop by, and send the team some words of encouragement.

The Marathon Map of the Month page has been updated... May's map is up, and it should make at least ONE person very happy. (No, really, it's a good map. No money changed hands in the picking of this one. Donuts, maybe. But no money.)

Marathon: Open Source reports of a new hotline server for Aleph One files, advances in both the Prefs dialog box and the graphical MML editor, and a test map, showing all the big bugs in the Marathon engine. Catch up, like we are!

The Scenario News page has still more screenshots for Portal of Sigma... and (dare we believe it?) the impending release of RED! Wow.

Lots and lots and LOTS of Marathon Story T-Shirt news over at the Marathon's Story page. Want one? Be in New York in 3 weeks! (Well, almost 4, but who's counting?) Also some fun news today about crop circles in Russia. Part of the Bungie world domination plan?

The Archives have added a map update... should have gone up several days ago, but the maintainer is a bum, it seems.

Myth

A powerful Myth site gets an overhaul, and a new scenario release hits the net... read about it on the Myth page. And maybe, just maybe, the Mill might be coming back. We can all hope.

Oni

New Oni poll, an older Oni site reopens, and a Playstation Magazine article, all at Oni Central. Someone was worried Oni news was dead... not hardly.

Halo

The biggest news at HBO in the last few days has been the petition to keep development going for the mac and pc. Currently at almost 23,000 signatures, it shows the overwhelming support the community has for this subject. If you haven't signed it yet... you should. (The hope is that Bungie doesn't allow Halo to become an X-box-only title.)

June 23, 2000, 1:47 am

Bungie Sightings

Bungie Sightings got a major update tonight. First and foremost, info on the fanfest at MacWorld next month. If you're coming to New York, read this! Second, Freewill managed to score a meeting with a vice president at Take Two... see what he has to say about it. Last, but not least, his rant a couple of days ago generated some interesting responses... check 'em out!

June 22, 2000, 8:52 am

Oni

Oni release date news at Oni Central! Woohoo!!

June 22, 2000, 5:01 am

Congratulations to Aaron Davies, who was visitor 77777 to this page (and has the screenshot to prove it!). Less than an hour earlier, Karl Timmerman repeated the feat for the Marathon: Open Source page... two in one day! An omen.

June 20, 2000, 8:17 pm

The Question & Answers session with Bungie on IRC was a success, we posted a log for you here. A HTML version will follow!

June 20, 2000, 2:29 pm

Amazing what $15 will buy you these days. Check out http://www.bungiesellout.org/. Despite the name, these guys are afraid the REAL Bungie is gone... Let's hope they're wrong. Congrats to Arlo and Noah, who seem to have gotten this up in record time.

June 20, 2000, 9:56 am

Bungie employees will be holding another Q&A session for fans, this time on the IRC channel #bungie. Connect to the EFNet network at 4 PM CST today, and come on by!

bungie.org has discussed the buyout, and the consensus is in: We're (mostly) staying. Here's how it all shakes out:

Pathways Into Darkness

Pathways Into Darkness continues on unchanged. No announcement needed... none given. This site will continue to grow, fleshing out this early Bungie game.

Marathon

The Marathon: Open Source project is pretty much unaffected. The GPL license that the source code lives under will not change. Recent additions to the page include a Marathon-based process manager (shoot the Bob, Open Transport quits), changes to the open-source Saved Game Editor, and the approach of the 77,777th visitor.

The Headmaster of the Orphanage has thought pretty seriously about the whole shebang... and has come to the conclusion that Marathon development is more for the fans than for the company. If your project dies, he's still here to help you find the pieces a good home.

The Story page has ceased its SETI unit crunching (stopping at 7777 units), but lives on because of its fans. As Hamish says, "without you folks there would be no Story page." Today's news contains an extremely interesting shot from the animated TV show Starship Troopers... cross-inspiration at work? There's much more, so stop by and read up.

The Scenario News page has expressed its support for the Marathon community, and won't be shutting down any time soon. Of course, Mike Watson, the current deviant updater, might not be around for long... did you think noone noticed your June 14th post, Mike? In these days of community bonding, Mike is about to come apart at the seams. (Or the arms. Whichever comes off first.)

The Archives are still running strong, although recent events have caused some delays in posting maps. Apologies to all mapmakers who've been waiting patiently... today, hopefully. I'll get them up today.

Myth

The fate of the Myth page here is still unknown. The Mill is gone (we'll miss you, Fm!), and the most actively-updated areas of our Myth site might not be updated any more. Time will tell.

Oni

Oni Central was the first bungie.org site to publicly support the shift. Loyalty is a healthy trait. ;) Recent news includes a possible release date for Oni, and some commentary from Rockstar Games CEO Terry Donovan. Oni will definitely be the next Bungie game released.

Halo

HBO has been one of the busiest b.org sites in the past few days, partially because the Microsoft deal has more impact on Halo's development than any other game. It's likely that Halo will come out for the X-box first (which means a release date of next fall sometime, at the earliest), and there is no word yet about whether it will (or won't) come out for the Mac and PC. A very interesting article, written a year ago, was mentioned today... it definitely introduces some doubt about Bungie's ability to remain autonomous. However, for the time being, HBO will continue to be your best source of Halo news. Stop on by for news of a new screenshot, and transcripts of a couple of question-and-answer sessions with Bungie employees held yesterday.

Bungie Sightings

Bungie Sightings will continue, but Freewill made it clear yesterday that Bungie gets nothing for free on this one. Think of him as our very own pit bull.

June 19, 2000, 1:25 pm

The big news today, of course, is Microsoft has bought Bungie. Details are available (with a plethora of viewpoints) at almost any big news site... many of them are currently linked off halo.bungie.org. While bungie.org, as an entity, will remain online... some individual site maintainers are showing their unhappiness to a greater or lesser degree. Randall Shaw, the maintainer of the Mill, has made the decision to take the Mill offline. He's also made it clear that he will not turn the reins over to anyone else... so it's unlikely that the site will be replaced. This is a great loss to the Myth community as a whole. In fact... the entire myth.bungie.org site may disappear... Pie-Rat is on vacation for the next month, and Forrest isn't sure he's willing to continue maintaining the site. Time will tell. Nijhazer, who founded the Orbital Arm, and sometimes wrote press releases for b.org, has left... we'll miss you, Nij. Freewill, maintainer of the Bungie Sightings page, is sticking around... but his current update makes it clear that he's not 100% behind the move. The Story page seems to be offline right now... but says "Announcement Coming."

We respect the decisions of all our maintainers, as well as all Bungie fans, on this issue. We (bungie.org) have decided to adopt a "wait-and see" attitude for the time being... but I (Claude Errera) understand the frustration of those fans and members of the b.org crew who don't wish to do this. It's been a great run... and whatever happens, I'm proud to have been a part of the Bungie fan phenomenon. You guys are great.

June 16, 2000, 12:11 pm

Our fearless leader Claude Errera is away for the weekend.

The Master of BS is away for the weekend.

June 14, 2000, 3:24 pm

Pathways Into Darkness

More speculation on the relationship between Monks and Sentinels on the Pathways Into Darkness page today. I'm still trying to find out what happened to the elephant...

Marathon

A new version of Aleph One has been released, with a slew of improvements (although still no incorporation of other coders' contributions). Biggest change is semitransparent liquids. Swing by Marathon: Open Source to pick up your copy today!

Tie-ins between PID and Marathon brought to light on the Story page. Also, evidence of physics cheating, in the name of playability, in Infinity. Shame on you, Bungie!

Halo

Rumors continue to fly over at HBO. Will we EVER get back to the actual game? Well, there's lots of new art to look at, at least...

June 13, 2000, 10:54 pm

Pathways Into Darkness

Wow... two updates to the PID page since we last posted! No Roof, Sherlock, and suspicious sentinels... the mysteries of this game remain deep, 7 (!) years later.

Marathon

New plans for upcoming builds of Aleph One and oodles of new art... the Open Source page is worth a visit!

More font madness over at the Story page... that poor deodorant marketing firm is being raked over the coals!

Slander and nastiness on the Scenario News page... we pay that guy too much.

Halo

Interesting new fan fiction, cool art, and more kudos for Halo, all at HBO. Who says Crux is a bum?

Bungie Sightings

Umm...

June 11, 2000, 11:39 pm

Weather continues to play a big role in the stability of bungie.org... if you have trouble with a site, try again a few minutes later. We're still working on it, and hope to have it cleared up soon.

For the Hotline crowd... B.org Icon Set 5.0 is finished! 41 brand-new icons are available, as well as 25 moved/changed entries. Stop by hl.bungie.org and pick 'em up! You'll find the mac set at

Files/Bungie.org/Borg Icons/Borg Icons Mac/B.org Icons Set 5.0

and the pc set at

Files/Bungie.org/Borg Icons/Borg Icons PC/Borg PC Icons v5 hotline.dat

Enjoy!

Pathways Into Darkness

So... the dead wear overcoats? The PID page has some interesting speculation today.

Marathon

Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge finally has its own section at the Archives. You can find a plethora of tools for making EMR maps, and several of those maps, already available. Most come from the EMR Mapmaking contest last winter, but one is a relative unknown. (Doesn't deserve to be, though. It's fantastic!) A fix for your Marathon jones, for sure.

New screenshots of a MML editor, and news of interesting liquid treatment... the Source is your source.

Okay, he's gone too far. The Marathon's Story page has an account of John Sumner's newest accomplishment... the entire Marathon 2 scenario completed with four shots fired. Four. One. Two. Three. Four. The man's insane. (Also, info about the Marathon quiz at 3DActionPlanet, some bread-and-butter Marathon speculation, and more Halo font madness. Busy day for a Sunday!)

Oni

A playable beta for Oni? Check Oni Central for the latest. Also, an intriguing comparison between console and pc gaming... what will YOU play Oni on?

Halo

German Halo news, and more info about that Pixar rumor... and will that Forum EVER settle down? HBO continues to titillate...

June 11, 2000, 11:04 am

We're back up! Three cheers for the power company, who responded to an emergency call in less than an hour on a Sunday morning!

June 11, 2000, 10:19 am

Having problems reaching some bungie.org sites? Apologies... a transformer blowout has killed some of the power to our main server site. A few sites are up, but more are down. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved in the next few hours.

June 10, 2000, 2:57 pm

Marathon

Interesting parallels between Marathon and Halo are drawn on the Story page today. Recycling? Or just two iterations of one great idea?

The Orphanage has been updated... well, no new files, but at least the headmaster came out of hibernation. Go check out what's been happening!

Not one, but TWO graphical interfaces for MML (Marathon Markup Language) editing are in the works. Wanna know more? Stop by the Source!

Myth

The MythMaster's Challenge continues... new Chimera films added to the Myth page. Think you're up for it?

Oni

New fan art has been submitted to Oni Central... check out those gorgeous eyes on Konoko!

Halo

The HBO forum has been a hotbed of rumors and innuendos... Is Microsoft buying Bungie? Is Pixar making Halo films? Will Robin find Commissioner Gordon in time to stop Penguin from floating Batman out to sea on an iceberg? Beyond all that, there's a fun article at Something Awful, some new fiction, and other random news. Take a look!

June 9, 2000, 0:58 am

Pathways Into Darkness

In honor of the discovery that the covenant flyers will be called "Banshees", The Pathways Into Darkness page tells you more about Banshees than you wanted to know.

Marathon

Marathon: Open Source becomes the latest b.org site mentioned in MacAddict. Page 77 of the July issue says that those interested - "and those willing to walk the bleeding edge" - should visit http://source.bungie.org/ for the latest. We couldn't agree more!

The Marathon's Story page is full of tidbits, including missing terminals, FTL experiments, and positive press. I'll buy THAT for a dollar!

Myth

Major Creation release discussed on the Myth page. Tired of playing those old, old (geez, almost 5 days now!) Mill Contest winning maps? No problem, Bushido is out!

Halo

The furor over the PC Gamer UK article continues... and a new site comes online. More European content is coming... but not for a week yet. Get your daily Halo fix at HBO!

June 8, 2000, 3:44 pm

Oni

Oni Central notes comments made on an Oni Demo by Matt Soell.

June 8, 2000, 9:42 pm

Marathon

Several new netmaps have been added to the Archives... take a swing by if you're itching for new games to play!

The Scenario News page has word from another scenario in progress... new screens from Portal of Sigma! (Not too shabby, either.) Take a look!

The Marathon's Story page is filled with Halo news, including more info about the Marathon-like symbol discovered yesterday. Definitely worth a read. There's even a Pathways reference in the new info!

Oni

Oni Central has a new poll up... are you planning on buying the Oni soundtrack, now that there is more music out there to judge from? Stop by and cast your vote!

Halo

The latest print article is analyzed to death by the ravenous hordes calling themselves Halo fans. You'll find all the details over at HBO.
